My name is Mayuko Kobayashi (they/them), and I was originally born in Japan, though I spent a chunk of my childhood moving around different countries.
I love making films, drawings, music, and hanging out.
I am interested in explosive movements, after-images, colorful drawing utensils, quiet things, non-sensical things that are actually sensical, vice-versa, awkwardness, hope, hope in awkwardness, and more.
I think about the labor of connection a lot; what it takes to maintain a relationship with someone, and with nature. I approach making in a similar manner— laborous and tedious, repetitive and slowly changing.
My films have been screened internationally, some of those include: Bucharest International Animation Festival, Transfiguration International Festival, GIRAF festival, Paris International Animation Film Festival, and CutOut Fest Mexico. Recently I received a Jury Award for Best Animated Short at Mammoth Lakes Film Festival. I graduated with a BFA in Film/Animation/Video at Rhode Island School of Design in 2025.
